As a child, I could spot Tippett, Baker, Muren & Harryhausen’s special effects by sight. I’d spend countless hours watching BTS specials. My career includes carnie, cowboy, boxer, pilot, English teacher, & bar manager. But now, I’ve returned to my childhood passion of film making & photography.
Inspired by Martin Schoeller, and the Becher school of art, my work depicts people beautifully, just as they are. Exposing a side of intimate vulnerability in a way they allow only themselves to see. I am drawn to the wrinkles, the scars, the blemishes and tiny imperfections that tell their story.
The subjects in my images emerge from their blank background painted with light. The monotone canvas reveals their personality devoid of context. Light draws out the hidden details, leaving the imagination to fill what is not there. Reality is revealed in the absence of data.
Part of an ongoing editorial photo series on diversity among dynamic shooting sports athletes. Highlighting the wide variety of backgrounds of participants, action shooting is one the few sports where athletes compete evenly matched, regardless of gender, race, culture or orientation.
